Indonesia is a Western Country?

“Person with a migration background in one of the countries in Europe (excluding Turkey), North America and Oceania, and Indonesia and Japan.”

That’s new. They have their own definition about “western country”.

I have no idea whether it applies only in the Netherlands or all European countries.

By the way, in the Netherlands cities such as Almere and Amsterdam, there are a lot of streets named after Indonesia’s reality such as island, city, cloth, artefact etc.

By common sense we regard it as nostalgia among Dutch people who ever lived in Indonesia and returned home with a good memory.

Or is there another interpretation besides nostalgia? Perhaps: “Indonesia belongs to nations with mutual anchestor”? Is that why they categorize Indonesia as a “western country”?

By the way, in schools, we are indeed taught that ancient Indonesians used to live in Greece, before migrating to the present Indonesia in South East Asia.

Hardly Seeing Anger

There might be anger, on socmed or TV. It’s usually related to politics.

But among common people, anger expression is nearly zero.

They mostly keep the anger in the heart when things are perceived not really eccessive or too much. If it’s involving a ‘small thing’, they don’t consider it as a problem.

They avoid conflict as much as they can.

(Some say less complaint or anger is the cause why progress in Indonesia is not that fast as happening in developed countries). CMIIW

A New Way to Spread Love by Axel: Mango with Money

In such a hard situation, the have should spread love for the have not like Axel does.

The lady with green T-shirt called him “bule gila” or “the crazy westerner” ~ in positive meaning.

There have been certain westerners that are extremely funny and “crazy” when they come to Indonesia and interact with local people. So we put them into a social category, named: “bule gila”. 😂 😎🙏

Food Recreation for Indonesians Means Going to Western Restaurant, Japanese Restaurant etc.

You prefer something rare to something common.

No matter how Indonesian cuisine’s reputation is, for Indonesians, food recreation means going to foreign restaurants.

They look for cozy restaurant in malls or hotels for having cuisine: from Steik to Sushi, from Spaghetti to Sukiyaki, from KFC to Pizza, Vietnam’s cuisines, Thai’s cuisines etc.

Variation is the key. “Trying something different” by definition means “recreation”.

We (me too) generally regard Steik is better than “the most delicious food on earth” called “Rendang”, or “Nasi Goreng” (the 2nd rank) which we are already used to it.
